Iraq a Leaky Boat

Well, President Bush, you brought it up.

Your rhetorical bombardment trying to turn 9/11 and terrorism into an election advantage for the GOP .... insisting that "the toppling of Saddam Hussein's government has made the world more secure" .... is being shot full of more holes than a stop sign in rural Texas.

Despite your attempts to morph Iraq into a successful terrorism strategy, real facts keep getting in the way.

A classified National Intelligence Estimate report on global terrorism concludes "that the Iraq war has fueled the growth of Islamic extremism and terror groups." (WaPo)

In an effort to downplay the report and the Iraq war, The Decider said in an interview with CNN, "When the final history is written on Iraq, it will look just like a comma." The sacrifices of our brave troops are a COMMA! The bungled, disastrous and worst foreign policy decision in the history of our nation....a COMMA!

Monday the Democrats highlighted some of the commas and conclusions in the NIE terrorism report. They held a hearing on Iraq policy. Retired U.S. Army Maj. General John Batiste, who commanded the 1st Infantry Division in Iraq in 2004-2005, said that the "conduct of the Iraq war fueled Islamic fundamentalism across the globe and created more enemies for the United States." (WaPo)

Batiste said of the Iraqis held by the U.S. forces at Abu Ghraib prison that probably 99 percent were guilty of absolutely nothing, "But the way we treated them, the way we abused them, turned them against the effort in Iraq forever."

Batiste was one of three retired U.S. generals testifying before the committee, who bitterly criticized the conduct of the Iraq war and their former boss, Sec. of Defense Rumsfeld.

A sense of vulnerability, frustration and moral decline in government is pouring over the nation. The Ship of State has sprung a leak at the top.... if we don't act now to curb the enabling legislative deckhands, it may sink us all.

November!
