The Card Deal

The Bush administration, desperately trying to keep their death grip on power, is frantically, relentlessly trying to keep the subject away from the Iraq war before the November elections......TERRORISM, TERRORISM..... SUPPORT US OR YOU SUPPORT TERRORISTS! they yell.

It's no wonder they want to keep the bouncing political ball away from the lied-into terrorist-creating Iraq war.... the bankrupting cost and Haliburton-led no-bid contract corruption.... and Rumsfeld's Bush-supported arrogant wrong-headed decisions in the aftermath of the war.

"Card Urged Bush to Replace Rumsfeld." On two occasions White House chief of staff Andrew Card tried, and failed, to persuade President Bush to fire Defense Secretary Rumsfeld according to "State of Denial," a new book by Bob Woodward that "depicts senior officials of the Bush administration as unable to face the consequences of their policy in Iraq." (WaPo)

Woodward uncovers the "vast difference between what the White House and Pentagon had known about the situation in Iraq and what they were saying publicly." What they were saying publicly was a drumbeat of justifications and misinformation.... 9/11.... terrorism.... only we can protect you... and famously "Stay the course."

Which is ironic really since their own NIE report by Homeland Defense points out that the Iraq war is fueling increased terrorism worldwide. Supporting this assessment, Woodward reveals that a secret intelligence estimate report predicts that terrorist violence in Iraq will increase in 2007.

This report was given to the White House.

November.
