GOP "ValuesGate"

The person who is third in line for the Presidency is the Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL). He "recalls nothing" about being told last spring by Rep. Thomas Reynolds (R-NY) that a member of his House leadership was sending troubling e-mails to a House page. Evidently a problem beneath his august notice.

Bush's "FBI.... did not begin an investigation in late July after receiving copies of e-mails sent in 2005 by then-Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) to a Louisiana teenager-- messages that troubled the boy's parents." (WaPo)

The parents had notified their Representative, Rodney Alexander (R-LA) in November of 2005. House Majority Leader John A. Boehner (R-OH) knew of the concerns, but it was left to Rep. John M. Shimkus (R-IL) who chairs the three-member House Page Board to handle the matter.

So what did Shimkus do?.... notify the other board members, initiate an investigation? No..... he asked Foley about the e-mails and.... surprise, surprise.... Foley assured him the e-mails were innocent.

White House official spinner (supposed Press Secretary) Tony Snow yesterday tried to dismiss the scandal as "simply naughty e-mails."

Foley, hiding out in a rehab facility, claims no inappropriate sexual contact with a minor although one series of e-mails in 2003-04 with a teenager alluded to a dinner date.... "we eat... we drink... who knows... hang out... late into the night..."

This is the current GOP leadership of our country.... the Trojan Horse of "values" hiding "Hammer" DeLay, "Bribe Menu" Cunningham,"Macaca" Allen, "Abramoffed" Ney, "Loverboy" Sherwood, led by a "Lied into War" Bush.

Enough! November.
