Iran Olive Branch Wilting

Iran's mercurial President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wrote a letter to President George W. Bush looking for "new solutions for getting out of international problems and the current fragile situation in the world."

That would be very encouraging if someone were running things in the White House besides "I Have a Mission" Dubya. This is the second overture from Ahmadinejad, but no response from U.S. officials so far.

For all of Bush's "unique" qualities, the one that defines him is his dogged, single-minded approach to a problem, his "my way or the highway" attitude on whatever he undertakes. As situations change and problems morph in various directions....Bush charges on, head down like a cape-maddened bull. Much to the detriment of the country and the world.

Even a hot-head like Ahmadinejad can modify his language. We are no longer the "Great Satan" but a "Global Arrogance" ..... you've got to admit that is a pretty descriptive term for the face our Texas-swagger leader presents to the world .... but pretty nervy too from a U.N.-defying, Israel-bashing religious imperialist.

We should talk with Iran. If nothing more, just to find out what they are up to...like their moving forward on Friday with the establishment of their euro-denominated oil market bourse.

Just where this Iran olive branch is leading, or what it may be trying to deter, is hard to say. A confident country shouldn't fear talking things over though. Hopefully the Bush mind-set won't once again override our national interests.
